Top 10 Tips for Working With Models on Set

Esprit Creative Management believes in the power of community. Our main goal is to be a hub that attracts like-minded individuals to achieve a common goal. We focus on building long-term relationships with our clients and our vendor team. We are stronger and more successful as a collective. Over the past 5 years, we've fine-tuned our process and have created an inspiring experience at every shoot, from start to finish. One part of this journey is the interaction we have with our shoot team, especially our models.

Models are the star of the shoot and a model's energy can make or break a client's final images. Looks alone will not seal the deal and working with a seasoned photographer is only half the equation. It's important to create an environment that will make your models feel comfortable, welcome, appreciated, and respected.

Here are the top 10 tips when working with models on set:

Tip 1: Prior to the shoot, ask the agency if their model has food allergies or preferences.

Tip 2: Greet each model by name when they arrive.

Tip 3: Take time to introduce each model to the shoot team and announce their title. Example: "This is Jen, she is your photographer for the day."

Tip 4: Take time to chat with your models before their first shot. This helps break the ice and create a comfortable shoot environment.

Tip 5: At every step of the shoot process, take time to explain what's coming up next.

Tip 6: Check in with your models throughout the day - ask if they need water or to take a break.

Tip 7: Make sure to manage their time. If the shoot is running late and will go over the agreed hours, check in with them 1 hour prior to their end time to negotiate an extension.

Tip 8: At the end of the shoot, thank them for their time.

Tip 9: Always ask for their social handles and email address. It's important to build a roster of vendors to refer to for future shoots.

Tip 10: Tag all models in any image you post. You always want to give credit to the talent!

The relationships with your models should be some of your most valued partnerships as they are what help bring your brand to life!
